Buddha gestures in your home or office decor : Understanding Mudras

5 Budha hand gestures and their placement in your Space

Living in South east Asia makes you collect several Budha Sculptures and since we have them why not know some thing more about them.

Are you curious about the meaning of specific Buddha hand gestures?

Here goes the explanation !

Abhaya Mudra

One of the most popular Buddha hand gestures called Abhaya Mudra,
the energy of No Fear.

Abhaya is translated from Sanskrit word as fearlessness.

The Abhaya mudra is made with the open palm of the right hand extending outwards at the chest level or slightly higher. If you observe this Buddha hand gesture, or mudra, you will also feel the energy of protection, peace and a sense of strong, deep inner security.

Best to be placed in living room or the reception area of office.

Dhyana Mudra

Dhyana, or Samadhi mudra, is the hand gesture that promotes the energy of meditation, deep contemplation and unity with higher energy.

The circling of energy created by the triangle (formed when the thumbs of the two hands touch) also promotes a cleansing of any impurities on an etheric level. Just by looking at this Buddha hand gesture (let alone practicing it!) one can connect to the energy of deep peace and serenity.
Best to be placed in Meditation room, your altar.

Namaskara Mudra

Namaskara, or Anjali mudra, is the hand gesture that evokes greeting another being with the utmost respect and adoration for the Divine in all. As you can see, the greeting is expressed in a form of prayer coming from one's heart or the third eye.

The Namaskara Mudra can be expressed with palms at the heart level or at the forehead. Why? Because only with the heart, or with a deeper spiritual insight (third eye) can one truly see that we are all expressions of the same light.

Best to be placed at main entry of home or office.

Vajrapradama Mudra

Typically translated as the Mudra of Unshakable Self Confidence an unshakable self esteem usually understand as self confidence. The first words that come to mind when looking at this beautiful Buddha gesture are:
"I come with peace because I am peace".

It emanates a glowing river of the most beautiful golden energy - soft, kind, radiant, very healing, ever-lasting. Gesture of confidence in the Self, the real Self that is one with Divine energy.

When this confidence is there, the Heart becomes the strongest communicator. This is what this Buddha mudra evokes - strength and confidence in the Heart Self.

Best to be placed in center of home or office.

 Vitarka Mudra
Vitarka mudra is interpreted as the hand gesture that evokes the energy of teaching and intellectual discussion, or argument. It mostly feels like the transmission of a particular teaching with no words, and the circle formed by the thumb and index finger creates a constant flow of energy/information.

Close to Abhaya Mudra, the energy created by this hand gesture allows for a transmission of knowledge in a protected way, without being impeded by fear.

Best to be placed in Kid's bedroom.

Raga of the week: Organising home is equivalent to organising life So do it Now...!!!!

There is no doubt that when you eliminate the clutter from your life, you'll become more in control of your life. You'll feel better and life will become less complicated.

Clutter, clutter everywhere...
Clutter almost feels like a virus. Once it grabs hold of an area, it quickly moves to other areas of the home. Most people keep certain areas pristine, and "hide" the rest of the stuff in those unseen places like closets, attics and basements.

Clutter is stagnant energy
When you have clutter in your home you have stagnant energy. It pulls your energy down, it literally drains you of energy and creates a feeling of overwhelm. When you release it by letting go of things you no longer need, and organize the things that you have left, you get your energy back.

You don't have to de-clutter all at once
I also emphasized the importance of starting slowly – you don't have to do it all in one go. Start with a drawer or a cabinet. Start with one small area of a room or a closet. It's also okay to ask for help, whether that's from a friend or family member or whether it's hiring a professional organizer.
I find that once people understand how clutter happened in first place, and how it affects them from an energy perspective, it becomes much easier for them to do something about it. Releasing the guilt that they have associated with it is also very important.

Shopping for Chinese New Year

With businesses closed at the start of the holiday and traffic out of control, shopping should be done as early as possible.
Here are a few items to remember:
  • Food: Groceries for both the festival dinners as well as regular meals need to be purchased in anticipation of the holiday. Store shelves are ransacked the week prior to Chinese New Year. Read more about symbolic Chinese New Year food.
  • Clothes: Chinese New Year is a time to look your best; new wardrobes are purchased for family gatherings, temple visits, and public celebrations. Red is the color of choice, as it was once considered to scare away evil spirits and to bring luck. White and black clothing should be avoided during Chinese New Year.
  • Gifts: Small gifts and tokens of love are exchanged during Chinese New Year, so purchase candies, small cakes, trinkets, and candles. Children typically receive money or sweets placed inside of red envelopes. Alcohol, tea, fruit, flowers, and sweets make great Chinese New Year gifts for party hosts -- don't show up empty handed! If you choose to give fruit, give oranges and make sure that baskets do not include pears.
  • Lanterns and Candles: Paper lanterns will be needed for the Lantern Festival on the 15th -- and final -- day of Chinese New Year.

New Year Paintings for year of Water Snake !

New Year Paintings are pasted on doors during the New Year for decorative purpose and as a way of greeting. Images on the paintings are auspicious peaks and plants.
The paintings are called "New Year paintings" because they are mostly posted during the New Year.

恭喜發財 (gōng xǐ fā cái) :  Gongxi Fa Cai

Chinese painting has a rich history as an enduring art form and is well known throughout the world. Traditionally, Chinese painting is done on rice paper or thin silk, using a variety of brushes, Chinese ink and dye. Chinese painting covers a variety of subjects: portrait, landscape, flowers, birds, animals, and insects.

Painting Techniques

Traditional Chinese painting is known as “guo hua (国画)”. Like calligraphy, the painting is done using a brush dipped in black or colored ink, usually on paper or silk. The finished work can be mounted on scrolls and hung. Traditional painting has also been done on walls, porcelain and lacquer ware.
There are two main techniques in Chinese painting:
  • "Gong-bi (工笔)" or meticulous attention to detail, referring mainly to portraits, and
  • "xie yi (写意)" or freehand, referring mainly to landscapes.
